Левиафан /Leviafan: A tragic series of events unravels for Kolya, a middle-aged family man, living in a corrupt small town in Russia. After the mayor of the town starts a plan to steal his land and home, his close friend and lawyer comes from Moscow to help him win the battle. An outstanding film, dealing with issues of power, greed, corruption, morality, infidelity and religion, and their conflicts with the family ideal. Shines light on the worst sides of humanity, in a Hobbesian world with a gargantuan Leviathan that casts a shadow over the positive.
Inspired by Thomas Hobbes’ book, Leviathan (‘the war of all against all’), as well as many Biblical references (the story of Naboth’s Vineyard and the character of Job). A philosophical drama film, with heavy political undertones, which made it face harsh criticisms in Russia.
Remarkable direction by Andrey Zvyagintsev. Perhaps one of the greatest films of the decade and possibly even the 21st century so far.
Partially inspired by the true story of Marvin Heemeyer, who went on a rampage in his small American town, due to a feud with small government officials.

Leviathan Cast: Aleksei Serebryakov, Elena Lyadova, Vladimir Vdovichenkov, Roman Madyanov
