An American mathematician and his British wife move back to her hometown – a small remote village in Cornwall, England, and are faced with increasingly violent harassment from the locals.
Stellar direction from the great Sam Pekinpah. What starts off as a drama gradually ascends it’s genre into one of the greatest psychological thrillers in cinema history. Remarkable editing and use of cinematic technique.
Brilliant performances from Dustin Hoffman and Susan George, and from a great supporting cast of British actors.
Controversial at the time of it’s release for it’s violent content. Ambiguous, multi-layered and memorable. Considered by many as Pekinpah’s masterpiece. Nihilistic, brutal and thought-provoking.
Poorly re-made in 2011. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Music and Original Dramatic score (composed by Jerry Fielding). Based on The Siege of Trencher’s Farm by Gordon M. Williams.
